The Hat
In 1981, Lee Whitecraft said he wanted to start a tradition by awarding "THE HAT" to an outstanding member of AASBO each year at the Annual Conference. The awardee chooses the one to succeed himself and each person so chosen in turn chooses his/her successor. It is customary for the recipient to wear "THE HAT" at all AASBO functions.

Member of the Year
All members receiving a Gold Award are eligible for the Member of the Year Award, which is presented annually at the AASBO Summer Conference. The AASBO Board of Directors selects the recipient of the award.

AASBO Class/Workshop/Conference Scholarship
Through the generosity of AASBO Members and Vendor contributions, scholarship awards will be awarded to AASBO School District Members and Continuing JTED Students for the use of registering for classes, workshops, and conference registrations. Awarded JTED Students may apply their award to their continuing education tuition. Award amounts are based on the current registration amount applied for.

Pete Perkins Memorial Scholarship
Following the death of Pete Perkins, this scholarship was set up to preserve the memory of Pete and the work he had done for the Association.

William Lovett Memorial Award
AASBO set up the Memorial Award shortly after the death of AASBO's first Executive Director, William Lovett, and it has been presented each year to an outstanding member for his/her contribution to the organization.

The Chuck Essigs Award

Named in honor of AASBO’s distinguished Director of Government Relations recognizes the outstanding service to education in Arizona that Essigs has represented through a career dedicated to public education. The AASBO Board of Directors follows these guidelines when considering the award:

• The award does not necessarily need to be given every year – only when a suitable nominee is received and voted on by the Board of Directors.

• Nominations may be from non-AASBO members.

• Nominations for potential recipients are to be submitted by members of the Board of Directors.

If no nominations are received by the Board, no award will be made that year.  The award is presented at the Annual Summer Conference by the AASBO President.

The Vendor of the Year Community Service Award

The Vendor of the Year Award was established in 2013 to recognize outstanding contributions to the community by AASBO Business Associate members.

This recognition is to highlight businesses that have gone above and beyond in service to a school district’s community through volunteerism and community involvement. The Membership Committee, in consultation with our Board Vendor Representative, recommends the following guidelines in the awarding of future awards:

·        Nominations shall be submitted by the School Business Official holding active memberships in AASBO.

·        The Community Service Award will be awarded annually at the Summer Conference by the Board Vendor Representative.

·        Nominations for the award will be considered by the Board of Directors, with voting conducted by secret ballot.
